While the committee continues to look at various display and installation options, several members donned old clothes and rubber gloves to attempt to remove decades of dirt and see just how much work it would take to refurbish the small bell. Mark Schaff, Dylan Van Allen, Maureen Oberle and Xavier Faura met up on October 21st and began work on the bell. After placing it on a pallet, they applied a recommended cleaning product and made significant progress with the clean-up. It wasn’t easy work, but the results are spectacular.
There’s still much work to do and we will continue the job in early November. We’re hoping to construct a wheeled support for it so that it can be displayed in the church. This is truly a significant piece of our parish’s history and restoring it for our parishioners to see is very exciting.
